ELECTRIC HOT WATER HELP

Why call an electrician for electric hot water?

Your electric hot water system is full of electrical components. Faults in those parts need an electrician: a plumbing licence alone does not cover electrical repairs.

Hot water relies on electrical components

Heating elements heat the water, thermostats control the temperature, and wiring connects the system to its electrical supply. A fault in these parts can stop the water heating or affect its temperature.

A licensed electrician can test the electrical parts, identify the fault and discuss whether a repair is worthwhile. An electrical fault does not automatically mean the whole hot water system needs replacing.

A plumbing licence does not cover electrical repairs

A plumber’s licence covers plumbing work. It does not authorise electrical testing, fault finding or repairs. In Western Australia, electrical work requires the appropriate electrical licence.

A plumber can only do that electrical work if they also hold the relevant electrical licence. The important thing is to engage someone licensed for the work your system needs.

When a plumber is needed

Leaks, pipework and water-supply problems can still need plumbing work. Some hot water repairs or replacements involve both trades, so the required work must be matched to the tradesperson’s licences and permits.
